DESCRIPTION

We would like to present our competition entry to the Alsova Gallery competition. We have approached the design of this building from a sustainable point of view. We have used a timber structure to greatly reduce the embedded carbon in the structure of the building. We have also integrated photovoltaic panels into the top gallery roof sky lights. The facade has a mix of solid and transparent parts following the structure. To make a harmonious facade design we draped the building with a polymer screen that plays with the transparent and solid parts of the structure. The draped screen floats above the first floor giving it a light / floating appearance. At night the draped screen gives a different likeness with colourful backlight surfaces.
